How I love all the spring blooms that feel like wildflowers!!

It's not hard to get excited over all the blooms that burst forth in spring. Even though the unusually crazy weather has messed up my spring season just a tad, I have still been blessed with some of the most beautiful and unique spring blooms.

Before I started growing specialty cut flowers I had no idea all of the amazing and wonderful flowers I could grow from seeds in our Kentucky weather. I had always had some difficulty getting seeds to germinate but learned fairly quick that not watering enough was the culprit. After I made a pact to take care of the seeds and water when I should, the rest came fairly easily believe it or not. It was not rock science but rather consistency that led to my being able to grow all these lovely blooms.

There are so many spring blooms available in our climate to grow. I love when the foilage of the chartruese green bupleurum starts to come to life and I can add them in my bouquets along with little bits and bobs of blue and purple from the bachelor button, delphinium, and larkspur. And if I am lucky enough, I'll still have some anemone and ranunculus to add to those to elevate that wild flower feel.

I failed to mention that sweet peas are starting to bloom too bringing with it that never tired fragrance of nostalgia of my sweet great-grandmother's garden. This year I am so excited to have peaches and pinks that I have not had before and even a few blues and creams. I am so hopeful they work out. And along with the sweet smell of the sweet pea, I can't exclude the lovely and fragrant stock. It's always a crowd pleaser in my book!

We have snapdragons blooming in all sorts of colors, white orlaya, statice, Nigella and the cutest of bell shaped blooms of the campanula. Those bell shaped blooms make me think I should be watching for a fairy to fly out of the flower because they look so extraordinary!

We have Iris blooming, peonies, clematis, the beginnings of our roses-there are just so many things blooming that I feel like this blog post is all over the place but the flowers are just like that here at the farm-they are blooming all over the place. If you've never taken in all the wonderful variety of things that we can grown here in our 7a/6b area you are missing out my friend. Find time to take a deep dive into learning about all the many things we can grow here in South Central KY. Take time to learn and experiment and then enjoy the fruits of your labor by cutting some of those blooms and enjoying them inside in a room you frequent. If you have questions about some of the flowers we grow or want to grow some of them yourself, feel free to message us and we will be glad to share some resources so you can enjoy them too. See ya next time!
